    More than just boxes

    This comics course is for everyone - from beginner to professional - who wants to expand their view of what comics can be, and the storytelling language ONLY COMICS can use! With special focus on page layout, the teacher will talk about how placing, pacing, and paneling can make or break a story. Expect lots of inspiration, small assignments, class discussions, and geeking out about the little details!

    The course is open to everyone who wants to train their drawing skills within comics - both beginners and more advanced students are welcome.

    The seats are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. You have to register in the system NemStudie, either with NemID if you live in Denmark or with your e-mail address. When you have registered, your seat is reserved. After the application deadline, you will receive an invoice that has to be paid before the course starts.

    The Animation Workshop/VIA University College (TAW) reserves the right to cancel the course should there not be enough participants or should the restrictions due to COVID-19 make it too difficult to run a physical course.

    Cecilie “Q” Mainz Thorsen

    Cecilie (alias Q) is a graphic storytelling graduate. If not stopped, she WILL talk about comics and stories for days on end. Her favorite genre is fantasy (but slice of life comes close), and her preferred D&D class is the bard. Her teaching style has been described as “shooting bullets of pure knowledge straight into our brains”

  • Practical information

    Practical information about the course.

    The price includes various art materials and tea/coffee. If you wish to use other materials, you are of course very welcome to bring these yourself. Meals and accommodation have to be arranged by the participants. (There are supermarkets with bakery and meals to-go in walking distance from the school.)


    Accommodation is not included in the fee but Viborg offers several affordable accommodation opportunities. Within walking distance of the school you will find Oasen, Nattely and Klosterpensionen. The latter is located right next to Viborg's old Dome, right in the heart of the city. Other options include Lisely and Danhostel Viborg. You can also take a look at the local tourist agency's list of accommodation.
