Developing Animation Workshop in Otsuki, Japan

The Animation Workshop wishes to develop a sister in Japan in the town of Otsuki on the Island of Shikoku. As famous as animation is in Japan, opportunities for education and talent development in animation are limited the further you get away from Tokyo or other megacities.

We wish to create a parallel to the development that The Animation Workshop has been going through in Viborg. Starting with an animation program for children in the remote, small town of Otsuki will give kids the chance to explore the joy of animation, gain confidence in their own creativity, and realize the potential of the rich resources around them. And it will be an opportunity for cultural exchange between teachers and students from The Animation Workshop, Viborg, Denmark.

Otsuki Town is located at the southwest tip of Shikoku island, and is part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. It is blessed with lush mountain forests, a dramatic coastline, and one of Japan's biggest coral reef colonies. The town is promoting cultural exchanges to enrich education.

Animanoiroha has been organizing animation workshops for schools and environmental events, artistic residencies, and international drawing camps in Otsuki Town, Kochi Prefecture, Japan in collaboration with The Animation Workshop since 2016.
