  • Structure and content

The 14-week Professional Training course takes you through a series of lectures, assignments and mini productions, increasing in complexity, in the field of 3D character animation - from concept to polish.

Learn from active professionals in an incredibly creative environment and develop both your technical and artistic 3D skills.

Under the supervision of animation professionals, you are introduced to the modeling and animation software Maya and to 3D character animation. You will be guided through a series of exercises designed to transfer the classical 2D animation principles onto the computer and a 3D platform. Focus will be on body mechanics and physical action during the basic training, followed by the advanced concepts of pantomime acting and lip sync - both introduced in 2-week mini productions. The course culminates in a 2-week final project, a short animation, structured as a collaborative project. This will comprise each student’s showreel masterpiece; with which you can apply for jobs as a junior 3D character animator.

As an online add-on, you will benefit from a portfolio bootcamp with exactly this mind: how to maximize your chances to get a job in the animation industry. You will be guided and mentored by industry experts in how to create an effective showreel and portfolio.

Finally, you will be encouraged and supported in attending the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in June. The festival and market is a great place to start showing your newly updated showreel, meeting animation studio executives and applying for jobs as a junior 3D character animator.

The course fee is 2.000 EUR (14.900 DKK). TAW offers three types of scholarships to help fund your course.

The fee is the same for all participants regardless of nationality, unless awarded a scholarship. As per the rules of our co-funder Creative Europe MEDIA, The Animation Workshop can offer scholarships to course participants from so-called low production capacity countries. The Animation Workshop cannot grant a scholarship to every applicant but we try our best to help as much as possible.

You can apply for three types of scholarships:

    • Travel to and from Viborg at the beginning and end of the course
    • Housing (rent and utilities)
    • Course fee (part or full coverage)

You can apply for multiple categories, but please be realistic of what you need. Some applicants rely completely on a scholarship to be able to attend the course. You can apply for a scholarship in the application form for the course. You will receive an invoice for the entire course fee shortly before the start of the course. This will be sent as a PDF attachment to your e-mail.

  • Housing

We offer to help you find accommodation during your stay.

We aim to locate housing options that are furnished and located close to the school and which provide you with the opportunity to live with other adult course participants from the same course program.

The prices range between 300-400 EUR (2200-3000 DKK) per month.

You will be offered a specific accommodation by the housing organizer shortly after you have been accepted into the course. Rooms offered are typically located in the dormitory Camp Logos, which is located right next to TAW. Please note that TAW cannot guarantee that you get the specific room type you have requested. In some cases, we have to accept what is currently available from the housing organizer.

    Practical information
