    Application deadline: None – but the course has limited seats so please apply early in order to secure a seat. Please note: Applications will be available at the beginning of January, 2021.

    Place: The course takes place at The Animation Workshop/VIA University College, Kasernevej 5, 8800 Viborg, Denmark 

    Fee EU/Non EU Citizens: The price for a summer course is DKK 3.700 or app. € 480, including teaching, materials, meals and accommodation in a simple, shared dorm (read more under “Housing”). However, for former students of The Drawing Academy’s semester course TDA Classical, the price is only DKK 3.200. Please write for more information about how to get the discount.

  • Structure and content

    In this course you will spend a week this summer playing with drawing and storytelling.

    Through a series of exercises and small projects the teacher will teach you the basic principles of graphic storytelling and challenge you to work with the media in different ways. There will be a mixture of well defined and more free assignments, where you get to work with your own ideas. An introduction to some of the rich world of comics and graphic novels is part of the course.

    You will receive a detailed time schedule shortly before the course starts.

    Arrival: Monday July 6, 1 pm

    Departure: Sunday July 12, 1 pm

    Except for the first and the second day, there will be six hours of teaching every day. Additionally, most days there will optional activities in the evenings and afternoons.

  • How to apply

    Due to COVID19 the summer courses in 2020 are canceled. The next summer courses will be in July 2021. Please look into the new courses this Fall in animation, comic creation and classical drawing which were organized instead of the summer courses.

    Admission criteria
    The summer course is open for everyone who turned 16. Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a grown-up or have friends or relatives in Viborg or surroundings, where he/she can be accommodated.

    How to apply
    Applications will open at the beginning of January, 2021.

  • Teachers

    All teachers in the summer course are either a teacher, alumni or student of The Animation Workshop and have solid teaching experience.

  • Housing

    Accommodation in a simple dorm in or near the school or in your own tent is included in the course fee. The dorms are class rooms turned into sleeping quarters for that week, and you will sleep on the floor next to other participants. The camp site for tents will be right outside the school, so that you can use the toilets etc. in the school. Please note that you will need to bring along your own sleeping bag, sleeping mat, tent, etc. Of course, you are welcome to make your own sleeping arrangements as well.
