ANIMOK - strengthening children's media skills and understanding of film and promoting the development of social, cultural and creative communities

ANIMOK

Animated Culture / ANIMOK

ANIMOK aims to provide children and young people the skills and opportunities to create their own aesthetic expression using animation. This happens in the synergy between good movie experiences and film activities, where we work with the learning process: “Experience, understand and create”.

ANIMOK offers free film activities and film programs for children and young people in kindergartens and schools during Viborg Animation Festival, and thereby helps strengthen Denmark's youngest citizens' access to artistic and cultural experiences.

ANIMOK is a celebration of children's own productions in animation, games and cross-media and provides children and teachers with a unique opportunity to explore the field of film and media pedagogy. Through dialogue and film screenings children experience different perspectives and views of the world. Through ANIMOK we wish to challenge children to think differently and teach them to watch films in new ways to get a broader perspective at the world.

ANIMOK

  • About

ANIMOK develops and creates film and media pedagogy in daycare and schools and work hard to provide children a playful and creative approach to visual digital media, and to assure that professional adults in daycare and schools gain the latest knowledge and skills in film and media literacy when participating in ANIMOK.

Animation and games are the main focus of the festival, and through workshops children actively encounter animation and games as a cultural and aesthetic means of expression through which they can create their own personal language.

Every year ANIMOK curates a strong and eye-opening film program that leaves room for reflection and big laughs through presentations of high quality short film programs and feature films from around the world. In connection with selected film programs ANIMOK also provides teaching material and arranges Q&As with filmmakers as well as a series of workshops.

The ANIMOK animation competition for school classes across the country is a treasured yearly activity where over 500 children create their own animated film based on a given theme and a set of sample competition rules. The films are judged by a professional jury, which provides professional feedback to the children. The competition ends with a special event at the ANIMOK Day, including screenings of the children's films, an award ceremony as well as creative workshops for the children to attend.

ANIMOK Youth jury is one of the beloved recurring events where approx. 140 young people from different schools in the region get to be film jury for a day. Together with a film director, the children are introduced to various storytelling traditions and ways to create animated films. The aim of ANIMOK Youth jury is to give students a voice where their ideas and thoughts are taken seriously.

With the ANIMOK festival we strive to give children a strong voice though a visual language and to make them active world citizens. To theis regard ANIMOK collaborates with other international film festivals for children as well as cross cultural projects. In addition, ANIMOK include the UN Sustainability Goals and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child when curating film programs and planning workshops and animation competition for schools.

ANIMOK has existed since 2009 in various formats, and is today an independent festival for children in day care and schools throughout the Central Region of Jutland, Denmark.
