ReUnify – Division and Reunification

  • About

Film and educational material about the reunification of Denmark after World War I

ReUnify is the story of two children leading us into a magical universe, where trees carry the connection between the past and the present, where friendships are broken by war, but rediscovered in times of peace. The film thematizes emotions around embracing South Jutland's (Denmark) violent history, underlining the belief in peaceful co-existence and reconciliation across borders, nationalities and history.

The project consists of 2 overall artistic and pedagogical activities and actions:

    • Reunify – animation film: development of script, concept, layout, production as well as distribution and screening of an animated short film.
    • #GenfortælGenforeningen: development of educational material on Reunification based on historical material, life stories and experience with film and media literacy.

Project start date: 1 March 2019
Project end date: 1 January 2022

  • Educational Material

The goal of the project #GenfortælGenforeningen is to develop a unique teaching material that inspires how classes can work in a multimodal way with the theme of the reunion of South Jutland, with a special focus on drawing, animation, film and sound.

The material is based on personal life stories from the Danish minorities. Life stories from families who grew up in the borderlands and from the children taking part in the project. It is the children and their storytelling that are the focus and life stories are a way to convey the story of oneself, one's family, one's everyday life, and a perspective on (or "told us something about") Denmark's history, culture and identity. The teaching material will be digital, for free download and use in the professional teaching of Danish, History, Social Sciences and Visual Arts.

  • Partners

The project is supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture and the Danish Parliament Fund to mark the Reunification Anniversary 2020 and is part of the Danish-German Cultural Friendship Year 2020. Building on the deep historical ties between Denmark and Germany, the Year of Cultural Friendship in 2020 will further develop and intensify good cooperation between our two countries and set an international example for peaceful and forward-looking coexistence in the 21st century.

    ANIMOK

    ANIMOK

    Website
