CMIF - Creative Media Industry Forum

An annual conference which brings together companies from the creative media industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, exchange knowledge, and network. CMIF is a part of Viborg Animation Festival's Professions program.

    The 2017 version of the conference brought together the most important Danish and Japanese companies from the creative media industry.

    The Japan - Denmark Creative Media Industry Forum was opened by the Ambassador of Japan in Denmark, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki, and was centered around three panel-debates. Each of the panels consisted of three representatives from Japanese and Danish companies who, led by a moderator, discussed different topics such as IP-development and monetization.

    The participating companies included UNITY, LEGO, Dentsu, Toei Animation, SYBO Games, Worker Bee Japan, Rokoko, XFLAB Mixi and more.

    • CONTENT – IP to Franchise
      The secret to success starts with an epic story and strong characters. LEGO is one of the world’s strongest brands while in Japan, the tradition of working intensely with IPs has created a fan culture like nowhere else on the planet. How can Japanese and Danish animation and games studios incorporate and learn from each other’s ways of developing and working with IPs?

    • PRODUCTION – New Technology Creating Media
      How can technology lead to smarter workflows? Unity just launched Cinemachine, a new component to their game engine, which could seriously revolutionize the animated film industry. Meanwhile, the Danish start-up Rokoko has developed a motion capture suit, which reduces the cost of producing animation.

      How do you create a mobile game that keeps users all over the world playing and happily paying for years? Worker Bee is an expert when it comes to bringing Western gameplay to the Japanese mobile market, and SYBO Games nailed it with their megahit Subway Surfers, which, five years after its launch, remains the world’s most downloaded mobile game.
