  • AVRI 2018

    The first edition of Animation, VR and Games for Impact took place from January 26 to 28, 2018, in Viborg Denmark. 

    The event was organized by The Animation Workshop/VIA University College and Games for Change Europe in cooperation with SYBO Games, Game Hub Scandinavia and DFI.

    In the space of three days, three communities came together to share ideas, co-create and most importantly - jam. 

    January 26, 2018 - Conference

    A series of keynotes and lectures brought together some of the smartest animators, game designers and VR-MR-AR experts in the world; all of whom share a passion for social impact.

    Speakers included:

    • Reza Riahi. Artistic Director of the award-winning animation film The Breadwinner 
    • Yoan Fanise. Creative Director at DigixArt. Formerly at Ubisoft where he directed the critically acclaimed mobile game Valiant Hearts
    • Theodore Ushev. Director of the animation short Blind Vaysha, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2018

    January 27-28, 2018 - Impact Jam

    Theme: Mind the Ocean

    Inspired by the conference speakers, four teams from the fields of animation, games and VR jammed together under the guidance of expert coaches from January. Their mission was to use the power of their mediums to create social awareness about ocean pollution and propel social change. 

    On the final day, each team presented their game and a jury consisting of representatives from Plastic Change, The Animation Workshop/VIA University College, Games for Change Europe and SYBO Games chose a winner. The winning team were awarded conference passes to Nordic Game Conference.

    A virtual reality experience where you play as an octopus trying to clean the seabed from sinking plastic.

    Mobile game

    Navigate the sea as a plastic bottle. The objective is to escape the dangers and make it to Plastic Paradise; a safe-haven for plastic products.

    Ottopus

    Mobile game

    A mobile game where you, the octopus, face off with a polluting beachgoer who is throwing plastic products into the ocean.
