Nobody turns down a good laugh! In this masterclass, our instructor walks you through the principles of comedy in animation – pulling from their own work and dissecting examples from animation history. Across two 3-hour talks and 5 days of mentoring, you will animate a comedic acting piece – dig into timing, editing, and the craft of making a joke land.

Course breakdown 

Talk 1

Showcase of instructor’s comedy clips, key principles and comedy theory followed by the brief for your acting piece. 

Mentoring 

Live feedback and chat via Discord, with frame-by-frame notes on Syncsketch. 

Talk 2 

Wrap-Up: A group review of student work, with takeaway and reflections to close the masterclass. 

Who is the course for? 

Animation alumni and working professionals comfortable in Unreal Engine 5 — particularly those building a showreel acting piece, or storytellers drawn to comedic performance. 

Prerequisites 

  • Solid knowledge of Unreal Engine 5
  • Proficiency with Sequencer and the Animation framework in Unreal Engine 5 
  • Familiarity with Control Rig 
  • Strong grasp of animation principles 
  • Self-direction – comfortable carrying a shot from blocking to polish without hand-holding
