Join our three online masterclasses designed to demystify animation co-production across the Nordics, globally, and within sister/subsidiary company setups. Through real case studies, you will gain hands-on insights from experienced producers who have navigated these collaborations firsthand.

What you will learn

This series of online masterclasses is designed for line producers, junior producers, and producers in animation with local experience, especially those new to co-production, who are eager to explore Nordic collaboration, international partnerships, and sister/subsidiary company dynamics. Aspiring producers are also welcome. There will be one session focusing on each of those topics.

The goal of the series is to provide practical, actionable insights into producing animation as Nordic collaboration, international partnerships, and with sister/subsidiary company dynamics. The speakers will all be producers from Nordic animation studios who share their insights and practical, hands-on experiences on establishing and running this kind of productions. All sessions include case studies and a Q&A session.

Session 1: Co-Producing Within the Nordics (1 April 2.30-4 pm)

Speakers: Claus Toksvig, Nørlum (DK) and Linda Hambäck, LEE Film (SE) Dante, The Apestar (Denmark/Sweden)

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the advantages and challenges of Nordic co-productions.
  • Learn how to access Nordic funding and structure budgets for cross-border projects.
  • Gain insights into pitching to Nordic partners and broadcasters.

Session 2: Co-Producing Outside the Nordics (16 April 2-3.30 pm)

Speaker: Haukur Sigurjónsson, Gunhil - Ploey 2 (Iceland/Belgium)

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Grasp the strategic reasons for co-producing outside the Nordics.
  • Get an initial feeling of what to look out for when identifying and approaching international partners.
  • Get initial understanding of global funding mechanisms and legal/cultural challenges.

Part 3: Co-Producing with Sister/Subsidiary Companies (TBA)

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the strategic advantages of co-producing with sister/subsidiary companies.
  • Learn from real-world case studies about expanding operations and aligning creative visions.
  • Hear directly from industry speakers about their experiences and decision-making.

The series is organised by Nordic Animation and The Animation Workshop in collaboration and supported by the European Union’s ERASMUS+ programme through the AVENUE - Audiovisual Education and Training Network for European Vocational Excellence.
