What you will learn

The Houdini Intro course will provide you with a thorough introduction to Houdini with a focus on simulations and FX.

Through a lot of guided hands-on exercises, inspired by actual production scenarios you might encounter, you will learn about the different elements in FX: particles, destruction, vellum, smoke & fire.

We start with the basics and keep adding to that. What is a ‘solver’ and how is a simulation different from an animation? What are the different data types such as ‘voxels’ and ‘points’? And most importantly, what are the parameters we should adjust to achieve realistic results?

You will be taught the way of thinking, the problem-solving approach, and how to get a valuable overview of the FX task at hand. At the end of the course, you will have successfully completed several simulation exercises, and you will know how to confidently approach your next FX task.
