PANGEA used 3D printed sculptures of objects scanned in Nepal, Antarctica, and Nigeria to set off a video installation created from photos of the spaces those objects inhabited. In PANGEA objects become landscapes and landscapes become objects, leading the audience into a puzzle they themselves must decipher. As digital manipulation slowly morphs the scenes into each other, this literal interpretation of the supercontinent is an extension of recurring themes in Rouby’s work - bringing together people with different cultures and backgrounds together, celebrating the oneness of mankind, and condemning the corrupting influence of arbitrary divisions in society. Pangea was presented at Expanded Animation Stage as a part of Viborg Animation Festival 2018.

Simon Rouby (b. 1980) is a French artist educated at Gobelins in Paris and the California Institute of Arts (Calarts) in Los Angeles. He works in a variety of different media including sculpture, drawing, and painting. His first feature film ‘Adama’ has been selected in over 180 festivals around the world. More recently he received a one year fellowship in Villa Medici in Rome, where he started a new body of work combining installation and projection to question the notion of space in Cinema.
